READER'S WORKSHOP UNITS OF STUDY
September- Launching Reader's Workshop
During the Workshop Launch, we focus on the rules, routines and procedures of Reader's Workshop.
We continue to grow in our reading life and some of the focus lessons focus on increasing stamina, choosing "just right" books and keep track of our thinking.
October-Asking Questions
Students focus on asking questions while reading to understand characters and themes in books.
November-Inferring
Students focus on making inferences about their reading
December/January-Determining Importance
Students focus on determining what is important while reading non-fiction text.
February/March-Biographies and Historical Fiction
Students will focus on identifying important facts while reading biographies and historical fiction.
March/April-Navigating Complex Text
Students will focus on navigating multiple texts to research information.
April/May-Accountable Talk
Students will focus on learning to use Accountable Talk which has clear guidelines that supports group discussion.
June-Social Issues
Students will focus on understanding social issues. They will be asked to form an opinion regarding these issues and to provide evidence that supports their thinking.
